JCJC’s Concert Choir & special guests present, “The Star of Bethlehem”

ELLISVILLE –The Fine Arts Department of Jones County Junior College is proud to present “The Star of Bethlehem,” a Christmas concert presented by the JCJC Concert Choir, and special guests including an orchestra and dancers from the Laurel Ballet Academy. The public is invited to attend this free concert on Sunday, December 3, at 6 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Laurel.

Joining JCJC’s 90-member Concert Choir, under the direction of Joel Dunlap and accompanist, Dr. Victoria Johnson, will be a 90-piece handbell choir, organist Martha Monroe, and a full orchestra. Additionally, the Laurel Ballet Academy Performance Company, under the co-direction of Mia Whitehead and Elizabeth Gordon, will perform with the choir for several musical numbers.

“I am thrilled to include a 90-piece handbell choir and chimes in one of our selections, along with a full orchestra. It is a special privilege to be able to present the Christmas story through music because music has a unique way to touch the soul and inspire the listener. You will not want to miss this show!” said Joel Dunlap, JCJC Concert Choir Director.

The audience will enjoy popular Christmas standards arranged by Dr. Mack Wilberg, the renowned conductor of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir like, “I Saw Three Ships” and “Angels We Have Heard on High.” The choir will also perform other classic Christmas carols such as “Silent Night,” “What Child is This?” and “Hark! the Herald Angels Sing,” as well as musical selections from famed Hollywood composer John Williams.

The Concert Choir has a long tradition of presenting beautiful music in concerts across our area throughout the year. Dunlap said he appreciates the local churches opening their doors to our students, allowing them to present concerts for patrons throughout the region. For more information, contact Joel Dunlap at or call 601-477-4803.

Meridian East/Toomsuba KOA Journey Campground has earned the prestigious 2018 KOA President’s Award

Event Dates and Times

11/20/2017 - 11/30/2017
Meridian East/Toomsuba KOA Campground
KOA NEWS SERVICE (Phoenix, AZ / November 17, 2017) – The Meridian East/Toomsuba KOA Journey Campground has earned the prestigious 2018 KOA President’s Award from Kampgrounds of America, the world’s largest system of family-friendly, open-to-the-public campgrounds. The award was presented Friday, November 17 at KOA’s Annual International Convention in Phoenix, Arizona. KOA is celebrating its 55th Anniversary in 2017.

The KOA President’s Award is presented annually to campgrounds that receive high scores in customer service from their campers, and also receive top scores in KOA’s annual Quality Review.

KOA surveys hundreds of thousands of campers each year regarding their KOA camping experience.

“We know that the phenomenal success we’ve had at KOA for the past 55 years is all due to the wonderful camping experiences our campground owners provide to our guests,” said KOA President and CEO Pat Hittmeier. “Thanks to the investments made by our KOA owners, our campgrounds have never been in better shape. Our owners are always looking for ways to improve, and that’s reflected in the feedback we get from our campers.”

“It’s an honor to recognize these great KOA owners for their efforts,” Hittmeier said. “The KOA President’s Award is well deserved.”
