ECCC to Host 3rd Annual ‘Warrior Wonderland’ Dec. 1
East Central Community College invites area residents to get into the Christmas spirit by attending the third annual Warrior Wonderland Friday, Dec. 1, on the campus in Decatur.
The special celebration of Christmas will begin immediately following the Decatur Christmas Parade, about 6:30 p.m., and conclude by 8:30 p.m.
Warrior Wonderland will kick off with a fireworks display and visitors will have a variety of activities from which to choose.
Several East Central Community College musicians and ensembles, including the Centralettes and color guard, will be performing throughout the night on the music stage. There will be a ‘Selfies with Santa’ station, a Mississippi National Guard Avenger military vehicle that guests can maneuver, and various specialty, food, and drink booths sponsored by ECCC student organizations.
A $5 armband will provide unlimited access to a train ride, inflatable slide, and two laser tag areas. New this year is the Wrecking Ball, a ride that swings back and forth while the tub containing the rider spins, and a football throw and gaming trailer, also provided by the Mississippi National Guard.
“We always enjoy partnering with our local communities, and what better season of the year to do this than Christmas,” said East Central Community College president Dr. Billy Stewart. “We hope everyone will come out and enjoy the activities and fun our campus community has planned for this special holiday evening at East Central.”

Southern Pine Announces Adopt-a-School Program
TAYLORSVILLE – Southern Pine Electric is proud to announce its Adopt-a-School Program whereby employees, teachers, parents and community leaders will work together to provide needed resources for students and young people throughout its service area. The first school selected through the program is Hopewell Elementary, located in Covington County, Mississippi.
School Principal, Turpin Smith, teachers, staff and students participated in a booth at Southern Pine’s recent Annual Meeting providing a glimpse into the studies and academic capabilities of the children. Students enjoyed visiting with employees and appreciated an insider’s view of Southern Pine equipment.
Working hand-in-hand with teachers, Southern Pine employees will not only help provide resources but will teach a new generation about the benefits of belonging to a cooperative. Each year, Southern Pine will announce the selection of a different school for participation in the program from its eleven-county service area. Information will be provided in mid-2018 for schools interested in applying for the Adopt-a-School Program.
Southern Pine Electric is a member-owned, not-for-profit cooperative that distributes electricity to more than 67,000 members in 11 counties in central and south Mississippi. It is headquartered in Taylorsville and has offices in Brandon, Newton, Hattiesburg and New Hebron.
