Members of one local church are celebrating a major milestone for the church's history.
The congregation of Meridian's Central United Methodist Church Sunday celebrated the church's 150th anniversary. Church members brought in this big anniversary with a church service earlier this morning. They also held a picnic at Highland Park in Meridian. The picnic started at 5p.m.
We spoke to the pastor of the church during the picnic. He says the anniversary is special for the entire church.
"It's been a day long fellowship for us; two really good worship services this morning with a guest speaker. We had some of the former pastors and their spouses back. We had a luncheon for them. This afternoon, the church family itself wanted to come out and enjoy the day, but also open up our activities to the surrounding neighborhood. So we had visitors and that was great too."
Many of the church members say it is hard to believe the church has been in service for so many years. They hope the church has another 150 years in its future.
Central United Methodist Church is located at 1004 23rd Avenue in Meridian.
