Salvation Army Begins Holiday Campaigns

The Salvation Army's largest fundraiser of the year is underway. The organization will have bell ringers out at shopping locations with the familiar red kettles.

Salvation Army commander, Maj. Don Wildish, thanks the community in advance for sharing spare change with people who need help.

"When you give your donations to The Salvation Army through our kettles, that money goes in to help families this Christmas. Not only for our Christmas toys but also for some additional expenses that they may have that is incurred with the children being out of school for their Christmas breaks, as well as some additional food," Wildish said.

It was also the kickoff for The Salvation Army's Angel Tree campaign.

You may adopt a child and provide his or her Christmas wishes.

"Throughout the community, there will be approximately 700 families and that equals right at 1500 children, individual children," said Maj. Helene Wildish. "Imagine how a child would feel if they came out of their room and there wasn't a gift under that tree."

Angel Trees are set up at Bonita Lakes Mall. All you have to do is select a card. His or her Christmas wishes are listed.

The Salvation Army thanked the community in advance for sharing this way with kids.
