Oprah's personal trainer, Bob Greene, plans to be here Friday to film a segment kicking off his and Oprah's Best Life Challenge, from approximately noon to 2 p.m. at Dumont Plaza in downtown Meridian.

People in this area and across the nation are being challenged to lose weight this year and keep it off.

Meridian was chosen as the city for the kickoff of Bob’s Best Life Tour because of our community’s push toward weight loss and fitness through the Just Lose It, Meridian campaign.

Bob will be encouraging residents to sign up for his program, and will interview some of the attendees who commit to the program.

The Meridian segment is scheduled to be aired on Oprah on Monday, Jan. 14 at 4 p.m. on WTOK-TV.

Meridian Parks and Recreation Director Mark Naylor, who spearheaded the Just Lose It, Meridian campaign, encouraged those who have not yet submitted their weight loss figures for the local campaign to do so by this Thursday.

“If you were like many people and fell short of your goal or quit, we would love for you to come out Friday and help us make a good showing for the Oprah Winfrey Show and also sign up for the Best Life Challenge 2008," said Naylor. "Be a part of history and help turn Mississippi into one of the fittest states instead of the fattest.”

The city said parking is available in the Arts District Parking Garage. The entrance is on 24th Avenue between 7th and 8th Streets.

I want to loose 75 to 100 lbs within this year. I am overweight and I would like to get as much weight off as posssible because I am take blood preasure & Thriod medicine and I would like to be able to eliminate both if possible. I was unable to come to Meridian and be part of your challeng, because I was in the process of leaving on a business trip and I was unable to attend. I wanted to see what you had to offer for me to be able to loose this weight because I am tired of carring this weigh around & I would like to be able to feel good about myself again. I want to be able to go and pick out some new clothes without having to go to the large womens section. I would love to be able to buy size 8 to 10 again before I get to old to appreciate or care what I look like.

I am very interested in this program and I hope I can get some help with my weight because if I don't it will get further out of control. My husband is disgusted. I am 35 pounds over weight. I don't care who is coming to Meridian as long as they come because we need some help and encouragement. I have tried every year and never have been successful.

I am interested because I am 35 pounds over weight and I feel that it will get out of hand if I don't get help now. My husband is disgusted with my weight and wants me to do something. I am ashamed at the way I have let myself went and want to get myself back on an exercise regiment. I am always committing but never succeeding and this year I want to commit but I need help to stay committed. Thanks, I don't care who will be here, I am just glad that we are going to get some help and it is free.

COUNT ME IN! I NEED THE MOTIVATION, ENCOURAGEMENT AND ANSWERS TO MY QUESTIONS ABOUT HOW TO LOSE WEIGHT, NOT ESPECIALLY TO BE "THIN", BUT ENOUGH TO BE HEALTHY, AND KEEP IT OFF.

Posted by: Carol Location: meridian on Jan 8, 2008 at 06:44 PM
I would like to make the commitment but I feel I just can not give up drinking coke products and candy, those are my weak points, if I thought a super-star such as Oprah and her experts can help me, yes I am sure I am a candidate for losing weight just to prove to America that a 30 year old fattie from Ms can really do it!!

I just heard on WTOK that you need to go to www.oprah.com to sign up. ~1/8/08~ {{Happy Birthday Elvis! Miss you!!}}

Bob Greene will be here. He is starting his Campaign for a challenge with Oprah and hopes to kick it off here in Meridian on Friday. The challenge and Bob Green's program is designed to help us live a lifestyle that lasts all year. Therefore producing healthier Mississipians.

IAM SO EXCITED!!!! I WOULD LOVE TO BE A PART OF THE TAPEING IN MERIDIAN, MS

Posted by: Brenda Location: Meridian on Jan 8, 2008 at 01:53 PM
I don't think Oprah will be here. People always get excited about weight loss at the beginning of the new year, but come February and March, they have dropped out of it. Weight loss is a lifestyle change.

Oh, WOW! OPRAH! Will she bring Obama with her?

Posted by: Patsy Location: Sebastopol on Jan 8, 2008 at 08:14 AM
I am another one that doesn't have a weight problem but I would certainly love to be in Oprah's audience. But I would say that at times, I get remarks about my weight that does effect me as if I were fat. People should be more considerate when they speak about weight.

Oh,how wonderful it is for Ms.Oprah & Mr.Bob to host such a vital topic in America today. People that are having problems with too much weight need a "helping hand," and this is it. Right here and right now, and for some of us; prayer has been answered! "Thank-you Jesus!" So, Ms. Oprah, just in case you are reading this comment, my husband and I are very, very much interested in the "challange" and if you are looking for new "excellently blessed" talents for any of your up comming productions, please do not hesitate to call us,[601-484-5102] especially if you do one about "Hurricane Katrina." Our family survived the storm in Gulfport,Mississippi and we knew about it a few months before it struck. God bless each and every one of you!
