Local families gathered Sunday to recognize those who help to give the gift of life.
Sunday was the 3rd Annual Meridian Donor Recognition Ceremony. All the family members of donors in the area came together to share their own memories.
Those who donate are not the only ones recognized. Transplant recipients are also welcomed and honored at the ceremony.
Recipients are able to express their gratitude.
"Quite frankly, it's a very emotional time. Recipients are able to see and really tell family members how much they appreciate what was done for them. And for donor families, it's a time they can remember their loved one and really remember what they were able to do for other people," describes Charlotte Mullinix, with the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency.
"We recognize all of those donors that we've had this year and in the Meridian area. So we've brought together families where they have allowed their loved one to be a donor and we are expressing our appreciation of that," says Ron Waterman, with the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency.
The ceremony was held Sunday at 2:30 in the afternoon. It was hosted at Meridian's Central United Methodist Church
