The importance of volunteering was stressed Friday at Meridian Activities Center.

The "Volunteer Day" brought in agencies that are looking for people with the time to help them.

Seniors had the option of signing up to help groups like the Girl Scouts, animal rescue, and Care Lodge.

"Because there are people that need to volunteer and want to volunteer. And a lot of the organizations need help in town," said Leslie Lee Priester. "So we felt like if we had a place to come that people could sign up at the different organizations that are here. There are thirty here today, which is a very good turnout for this time of year, I think."

The activities center also hosted a health fair for participants to get a flu shot or have their blood pressure and blood sugar checked.
