The Smithsonian Institute brings its national kick-off for "New Harmonies, Celebrating Roots Music to town Saturday night. Workers began setting up the exhibit Thursday at the MSU Riley Center downtown.
The month-long exhibit celebrates roots music, and will include several musical performances Saturday at the Riley Center and at Dumont Plaza.
"It was decided that Mississippi was the perfect place to start, and then Meridian, Jimmie Rodgers was a big connection there," said David Morgan of the Mississippi Humanities Council.
The event will kick off Saturday at 9 a.m. with music in Dumont Plaza. The grand opening for the exhibit itself will be at 7 p.m. at the MSU Riley Center.
