The United Way of East Mississippi got a major donation Tuesday to help in its ongoing fund raising campaign.
Mayor Cheri Barry presented a check from city of Meridian employees of more than $21,000.
United Way officials say the check will go a long way in helping them meet the $800,000 fund raising goal for the year.
"It exceeded our expectations and certainly is a commentary on the giving spirit that the city has, and those who serve the city so well," said Bill Patterson.
With the donation, the organization was also able to update its fund raising thermometer. United Way has reached the 60 percent mark.
