5K Run Raises Autism Awareness
Updated: 7:43 PM - Local runners took to the streets to raise awareness about an important cause this weekend.
Residents may bring in used oil, batteries, pesticides, tires, and computer monitors, and the like, that should not be thrown away with regular garbage. The city does this twice a year.
"We do this, first of all, because the EPA will not allow those things to go into the landfill. And the citizens need a place to properly dispose of them," said contract compliance officer Odell Hopkins. "And so for the last 16 years we've been having this day to make sure that the citizens have a place to rid themselves of it."
There is a change in the drop-off time. The hazardous waste will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Meridian's public works building, off 29th Avenue.
