Meridian, Miss. Meridian Community College is making fun out of learning. College for Kids program is in its 16th year, and this year has 665 students enrolled in the summer learning experience.

Volunteers say they hope that these summer classes will inspire the youngsters.

Tanya Thompson, director of College for Kids, says, "It's just so much fun. And they can have fun and learn something as well. They’re exposed to a college campus as well and maybe one day inspires them to come back to school. We hope all these students are back as MCC students."

MCC offers a wide variety of classes over two weeks but have added some new classes this year.

"One of our new classes this year is Energy Zone, which is sponsored by Mississippi Power," Thompson says. "And they learn all about being a lineman or being in the power industry and everything about energy."

For the kids, they have the opportunity to learn a lot while making friends and having a lot of fun. All of the kids seemed very excited to be there. Even the college age volunteers were having fun just being a kid with the kids.
