Scores of volunteers pitched in to assist charitable and non-profit organizations.
One group from Riley Hospital worked at the American Red Cross.
Employees helped clean up the basement and organize supplies used to respond to community needs.
"The thing that matters for me, and probably the rest of us, is that we not only make our contributions throughout the year through payroll deduction, but we also are able to actually see on site what some of the agencies do for United Way," said Joel Gordy of Riley Hospital.
Gordy says volunteers get a deeper insight into how their donations are put to use in their own community.
