Employees of New South Ford and local community members tried to raise thousands of dollars Saturday for a local high school.
New South Ford hosted a 'Drive one for Your School' event Saturday from 9 in the morning until 5 in the evening.
This is a test drive event in which Ford Motor Company will donates $20 to the Meridian High School Quarterback Club and Meridian High School Band Boosters for every test drive that is taken on a New Ford vehicle. The company will donate that for up to 300 test drives, making a possible goal of $6,000. The money earned will go directly to the two organizations. They will split the money earned evenly.
"So we're trying to get 300 test drivers and I think we will hit that goal. We feel that activities such as the band and athletics are crucial to students success at Meridian High School so we want to do everything we can to support that," says Michael Van Veckhoven, the General Manager of New South Ford Nissan.
Staff with New South Ford say this event was specifically for Meridian High School. Depending on its success, they will try other schools in the future to help with extracurricular activities.
