Every day, hundreds of people use the testing center at Meridian Community College to look for jobs, improve their resume, and even take tests. With the now expanded center, more tests can be offered, which means you may not have to leave Meridian.
Darlene Mayatt, director of the MCC Career Center, tells us that, "In the past, people have had to travel long distances to take a lot of these exams. They may have had to travel at least 90 miles, and with the price of gas today, and also your time, this helps people stay more local."
The expanded center can also reduce wait time for those looking to take a test if other centers have a waiting list.
"The 15 different testing options that we have, and within those 15, there can be hundreds of tests within each one of those 15, so we have the opportunity to give thousands of different types of tests if someone needs those," Mayatt says.
You do not have to be an MCC student or graduate to use the center, and the type of tests offered include licenses for occupations.
"They themselves can come, if they're prepared, they can study, and they can come and take an exam let's just say for electricians, they want to work inside the city," Mayatt explains. "Maybe they've done that all their life, but now they actually want to work inside the city. They would just study, come here, make an appointment, and they can take that test and get that license so that they can perform now something that they've been doing inside the city limits."
