First Mississippi Federal Credit Union has been around since 1972. During its 40th anniversary, the staff is not only having fun, but also trying to help those who are in need.
Abria Jamison, marketing director for 1st Mississippi, tells us, "We're all about our youth and children, and they're about tomorrow, and we want to help them grow and be able to live life for today, so."
All this week, 1st Mississippi is helping youth by raffling away prizes and selling different items to send the proceeds to the Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital in Jackson.
Jamison describes the items they will be raffling. "We have a nice La-Z-Boy chair. We're also raffling a TV, 40 inch TV. Everyday you can come in and you can possibly win a prize, and on Thursday, we're doing Spin-the-Wheel Thursday, and I'm going to have a Vanna here, and you get the chance to spin the wheel and also win more prizes."
To spin the prize wheel on Thursday, you must be a member and make a transaction. A dollar will enter anyone, members and nonmembers, into the raffle to win the La-Z-Boy and the TV. Credit Union officials want the public to stop by and give to a great cause, and see what all the credit union does for the community.
"We're for the underdog, the little man," says Jamison. "You know, we pride ourselves on helping those that thought they couldn't get a loan; that thought they couldn't start their life over, get their credit back, and we're about helping the under-served, so we want to invite people to come down and show them what we're about, and show them that we do give back to the community, not just put it back into this place, we put it back into the people that deserve it."
First Mississippi Federal Credit Union is located at 1314 19th Avenue.
