Hosemann Says Most Already Have Acceptable Voter ID

Jackson, Miss.
The Mississippi Secretary of State's office says some circuit clerks around the state have reported that some voters are applying for a free Voter ID Card when they already have an acceptable form of voter ID.

“Only Mississippi voters who lack an acceptable form of voter ID are eligible for a Mississippi Voter ID Card,” says Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann. “The State will not pay for a Mississippi Voter ID Card if you already have another form of acceptable photo identification.”

A Mississippi Voter ID card is designed to be used for voting purposes only. It is not meant to replace any other form of identification.

“The Mississippi Voter ID card does not contain your birth date or other personal information,” said Hosemann. “Along with security features, only your name, address, county, and photograph appear on the card.”

Acceptable forms of photo ID include:

· A driver’s license;

· A photo ID card issued by a branch, department or entity of the State of Mississippi;

· A U.S. passport;

· A government employee ID card;

· A firearms license;

· A student photo ID issued by an accredited Mississippi university, college, or community/junior college;

· A U.S. military ID;

· A tribal photo ID;

· Any other photo ID issued by any branch, department, agency or entity of the U.S. government or any State government; and,

· A Mississippi Voter ID card.

If you already have one of the above, then there's no need to acquire a Voter ID Card.
