Presents, love and delicious food are three main ingredients in the perfect recipe for Christmas Day. And while families across the world are gathering to take part in Christmas dinner, one Meridian woman says she doesn't want anybody to be left behind. Fannie Johnson, executive director of Love's Kitchen has been collecting supplies for over a week for this special meal.

"Hunger is the worst possible feeling," Johnson says. "I can't imagine it, and I don't want anybody else to be hungry, and this community doesn't want anybody to be hungry because they prove it every year and every day, not just Thanksgiving and Christmas."

Johnson says they didn't have to buy a single thing this year... People from all across the community stepped up to donate items throughout the holiday season. Plenty of volunteers were quick to step up to the job, as well..

"I just like to help out, come down and help out Ms. Fannie and everything," says Christmas volunteer Jed Dubry. "It makes you feel good. Nice to help people out. It's just a warm feeling."

And even after a giant home-cooked meal, volunteers say it feels good to encourage people to come back for seconds.

"People come up and get what they want because it's Christmas," explains volunteer Lavonna Beam. "It's good to help people out because it's Christmas. It's a time for giving."

But it doesn't stop with just the Christmas dinner. Love's Kitchen wanted to ensure that those without homes felt at home. So every person who came in received a present.

"We have people who brought in hats and gloves. We've got the traditional meal, we have little gift bags, so everyone got to open something for Christmas. We're giving the special homeless population somewhere to be for Christmas and feel like they're home and being loved," Johnson says.

Johnson says she wants to thank everyone who donated, and helped make Christmas a little extra special this year.
