Meridian, Miss Great men and women can be found behind the scenes with any great institution, and during a bittersweet ceremony, Meridian Community College said goodbye to six of its staff. These men and women were a big part of the success of the school, contributing 10 to 20 years of hard work to make it possible.
MCC president, Dr. Scott Elliott, says, "You're happy for them that they have earned their retirement and be able to enjoy some other things in their life. Human resources are the most important thing for any organization. You can have big beautiful buildings around you and all those great things, but it's the people inside those buildings that make things go effectively and we're losing some good ones today."
For one retiree, the bittersweet feeling is mutual. Retiring is something Ardra Govan has looked forward to, but she will miss her friends at MCC.
"It feels wonderful that this day has finally arrived," said Govan, who has 18 years at MCC. "When I first started it was so far away I didn't think about it. Then I woke up one morning and I was here, and it feels wonderful. Yeah, I’m going to miss it but I’m moving on to the next chapter of my life. I'm going to miss the people for real."
The retirees present also included Susan James, Phyllis Jones, and Nan Robinson.
Officials say years of hard work have helped to make MCC what it is today.
