The city have its Mardi Gras celebration downtown Saturday, Feb. 26, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
For the second year in a row, the Queen City Jam Session will be held, all day, featuring local bands. And for the first time in two years, two parades will be held, with the Krewe of Barkus starting at 12 noon.
"We're also pre-selling king cakes for Mardi Gras," said Meredith Rea of the Meridian Mardi Gras Planning Committee. "They'll be $10 each. They're coming from Paul's Pastry in Picayune. And we'll have 4 flavors, plain, which is cinnamon, strawberry, Mississippi mud, and pecan praline."
The event will also include a Gumbo Cook-off at 3 p.m.
Activities will be from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
