Many families use Saturdays to spend some quality time together. One local school helped to make this Saturday even more entertaining.
Northeast High School Saturday hosted a fun filled fall family day. The fall family day was kicked off with the Northeast Baseball Turkey Run. This consisted of a 5K run, a two mile walk, and a one mile fun run. All participants received a free t-shirt.
The day also included dunking booths, games, and prizes. Admission to the fun day was free. Parent volunteers were pleased with the turn out.
"This year we added lots of stuff to it. We added some vendors to it, some bouncers to it, games for the small kids and even a silent auction. We've had a pretty good turn out seeing how it was kind of cold. But the race went real well and we had a great day," says Denise Johnson, a parent volunteer for the Northeast Baseball team.
All of the money raised is going back to the baseball team. Parents and coaches are working on a new field house. They started the field house project last year. Parent volunteers say it is a great place for the players and that's why they want to finish it sooner rather than later.
Parents set a goal for Saturday's activities. They were hoping to raise between five and six thousand dollars. They worked from eight in the morning until two in the afternoon in order to reach this goal.
