Poplar Springs Drive United Methodist Church Host Fall Food Festival

As the temperatures change from warm to cold, it seems our food choices change for many of us as well. One local church made sure to provide for those cravings.
Members of Meridian's Poplar Springs Drive United Methodist Church hosted their Fall Food Festival. For all of you so called 'foodies' out there, you had the chance to eat all day from ten in the morning until one in the afternoon. Slow roasted pulled pork plates costs six dollars. Other than the pork, that included baked beans, cole slaw, and Mississippi Bread.
Although the Food Festival is fun, church members say it serves a much larger purpose.
"Where we raise money to donate to local missions here in the community. A portion of it also goes to help with our after school program. Yes we do. We try to have something at least every month that is outside the walls of the church that we do to benefit the missions here and in Lauderdale County," explains Larry Hilliard, the senior pastor of the church.
In order to raise as much money as possible for those missions, church members also delivered plates. They made sure to include homemade cakes, pies, and cookies. Plus, the church made assorted frozen casseroles and homemade soup and chili to please all appetites.
