Meridian, Miss Preparations are well underway for Bonita lakes annual fourth of July celebration. The events will kick off at 6-30 Friday night but the gates open up at 3. Tons of activities are planned for this year’s celebration from the opening ceremonies to the final boom of the fireworks.
Casey Null, the cultural affairs coordinator says "We are going to have the NAS honor guard come out and present the colors, we will have Terrance Davis sing the national anthem. We have napoleon and love under cover who will be our entertainment for the night. And then, of course, what everyone looks forward to is the firework show that will start at 9 o'clock."
Last year a crowd of over 2000 people attended the celebration, but meridian is excitedly expected an even large crowd this year thanks to what day of the week the holiday falls on.
She says "Well we are looking forward to a really large crowd. Last year we had between 2500 and 3000 people and this year with it being on a Friday and not as many people having to work the following day so we are looking for a much larger crowd."
Admission is completely free, so the only thing you would need to pay for is food from any number of great vendors, but that doesn't mean you can't still grill out.
Null says "You can bring your lawn chairs, bring your grilles, blankets, come out relax and enjoy the festivities."
With plenty of activities, live music and a great firework show, you'd be hard pressed to find a reason not to attend.
“This is one of the largest events that we put on in the city,” according to Null, she went on to say “It’s a wonderful family event, there is absolutely something for everyone. There is not any reason you wouldn't want to come out. Its a fun time for everybody."
