Controversial Video of Board of Supervisors' Meeting Released

The video capturing the Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors discussing issues in closed executive session that should be discussed in an open meeting has been released. This is roughly seven and a half minutes of the board talking over possible tax increases for garbage collection. Under the Open Meetings Law, this subject matter should be discussed in an open meeting so that the public can hear it.

A local resident accused supervisors of discussing public matters during a closed session. The session had apparently, accidentally been captured on tape and posted to the county's web site.

News Center Eleven discussed this with an attorney for the upcoming edition of the program, 'On The Record'. You can watch the video in question here or during 'On The Record', which airs Sunday on WTOK at 5:30 p.m. and myTOK at 11:30a.m.

News Center Eleven is working with the Meridian Star on this story.

Well, all of you Boswell lovers, isn't it funny that he is the one that brought this up and it WILL raise your taxes. Let's see how many of you continue to support him with proof that he is one of the most crooked and self-serving "constichents" of Lauderdale County. Beat 5 - wake up from your ignorance and get rid of this person as a "County Leader"...

Good old boy Ray seems to always be the ring leader in all of the issues for Lauderdale Co. Why can't people vote him out. Clean the slate of all of them. They are a bunch of greedy men deciding what to do with tax payers dollars that best suits them and not the people.

Kudos to Star and WTOK for sticking to their guns on this. I think things just might get better around here with the press doing their job and not being silenced.

As Bozo said all they will get is their hand slapped so why should they change? These people think they are above the law because they know We will pay their fines.

Well, what else is new? They are at it again, adding to the number of times they, as the Board, have been in violation of the law. How much longer are we going to allow it to go on? Please vote these people out, Lauderdale County---besides continuing to violate the law, they are an embarrassment because of their stupidity----or else they are smart enough to fool you gullible people. And it doesn't look real good for Rick Barry to be right in there amongst them, telling them that he will draw up a paper, saying the the millage rate can be raised. Supposedly, they (the Board) didn't know they were being videoed; what difference does that make? They were still knowingly violating the law.

I agree with "voter" on his October 24 post. Hitt is my current supervisor but WILL NOT -- repeat WILL NOT - get my vote again. I say we need a clean slate next election.

Boiler room politics around here? What else is new?

If they broke the law each and every one of them should be removed from office. None of this "well they didn't know" crap. That is why this country is in the condition it is in. It is because of politicians like these. Every one of them should be brought up on criminal charges and gotten rid of INCLUDING BOSWELL! His butt should be the first one to go.
