Meridian, Miss. WTOK said farewell to one of its longtime employees Friday afternoon.
Master control operator, Carl Harper, retired from the station after working here for 31 years.
Carl started in 1982 in production after former Meridian High principal, R.D. Harris recommended him to Bob Holland, who believed teachers worked well here. Carl continued to teach math at MHS after he came to work here.
Carl became a master control operator in 1995.
He was presented several gifts for his dedicated service, including fishing poles and a tackle box.
"WTOK to me has meant my life," said Harper. "It has been my welfare. It has been my well-being. And it has meant all these people around here, all these people around here who have been my friends, colleagues for all these 31 years."
Carl's final newscast was Newscenter 11 at 6. We are accustomed to hearing Carl give his signature line, "The newscast is two minutes away, two minutes," each evening at 5:58 p.m.
