LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss (WTOK) - The Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics says there have been 195 deaths this year from opioid overdoses.
This year is on track to become the deadliest in Mississippi’s history when it comes to opioid deaths. 2016 saw a total of 211 deaths. Here in Lauderdale County, operations manager for Metro Ambulance says they do respond to calls that involve opioids.
“I can’t say we have had an outrageous amount of deaths that have been due to opioids. We do get a numerous amount of calls related to that field,” Smith says.
MBN says they fear the total number of deaths this year could be over 300 once all of the paperwork and autopsy results are in.
