MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - The community has joined together to make the most out of a bad situation at Meridian High School.

The Visual and Performing Arts Department will be creating a mural that will be placed at the recently-vandalized area of the campus. Today a check was presented for over $2,000 to the high school and the National Art Honor Society. Former alumni and other members of the community donated the money to a GoFundMe account that was set up by a former student.

"It's been a lot of excitement in the air here on our campus about it," said MHS principal Victor Hubbard. "Our students are thrilled, our alumnis are thrilled, and it's just a wonderful feeling to have that strong support from former students and from this community."

Two people have been charged with the vandalism.
