Coats for Kids campaign latest

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Temperatures are likely to dip back into the teens next week and having our community stay warm is growing increasingly important. You may help out by donating to our Coats for Kids campaign.

“It’s a great way for the community to give back," says Brandi Ray, the Clinical Director and Assistant Executive Director for the Wesley House. "It’s a great way for people to take advantage of something that they need, and just to show that brotherly camaraderie and support for one another and helping the community take of their own.”

You can drop off new or gently used coats to the WTOK studio in downtown Meridian or at Meridian Mutual Federal Credit Union. This year’s campaign has been very successful so far.

“It’s been a great year, we’ve had lots of donations. We have had lots of people take advantage of this program. From October to this week, we’ve given out over 500 coats. It’s been really busy, it’s gotten a lot busier in the last few weeks as the temperatures dropped and people have needed coats but it’s been a great, great Coats for Kids campaign this year.” says Ray.

If you or your child are in need of a coat, you can stop by the Wesley House in Meridian to pick them up.

“We’ve got plenty of coats, don’t go without. Stop by, take a coat for your child, we do ask the child to be present so they can try it on, make sure it fits. But we’ve got plenty of coats, we don’t want anybody to go cold. It’s a great campaign, great opportunity for you to come and get a coat for your child or for yourself.”

Your donation to the campaign will go a long way.

“We just appreciate the community and WTOK for helping and giving to the community, it helps us all help one another and it gives everybody a great opportunity to stay warm and help one another.” adds Ray.
