Larkin's has been serving up great southern food seven days a week for right at five years now.
Wendell Larkin had been in the grocery store business 17 years, including a 10-year run in York. But after closing the store in 2011, customers of his deli clamored for some of his home cooking.
"And when I closed the grocery store, I'd run into people on the street and they'd say where can we get some of that Larkin food. I was looking for a place, and I had rolled by this old place here and looked at it. It was in bad shape," said Wendell Larkin, the owner. "But I rode by it again and looked at it. I got with a contractor and we fixed it up and we opened on November 2012."
"Let me have the smothered pork chops," said one of the customers.
And for the last five years, Larkin's has been dishing out some of the best soul food and down home cooking you can find. They've got regulars who eat there almost every day and others that make the short drive off the interstate to enjoy the daily lunch specials, burgers, wings, barbecue and much more.
Lindsey Hall asked, "What's your secret on the hamburgers here man?"
"I can't tell you, can't tell you," said one of the cooks. "Mr. Larkin would have my head. Can't tell you."
Although he's had a chance go move his business to other areas and make it bigger, Wendell says his home is in York, and he enjoys what does in this family-operated eatery.
"I'm a person that likes people. I always have. I like to see people. I like to talk to people," said Larkin. "Every time I see someone come in and they leave and say, I'm full. I say I like that. I've done my job there.
