County Road 11: Spoonfudge in Sebastopol

By  |

SEBASTOPOL, Miss. Newscenter 11 is beginning a new franchise piece called "County Road 11." It will air every Thursday at 6:00 and 10:00. Lindsey Hall will travel the back roads of east Mississippi and west Alabama and feature some of the more interesting people and places around. To kick things off, we head to Sebastopol for a home-grown business success story.

"I am making a strawberry at the pearly gates sundae. It's gonna have ice-cream, strawberry and white chocolate with spoon fudge melted over the top of it," said one of the workers at the shop.

Six years ago, Alesia Johnson and Tarah Boykin started their Spoonfudge business in Sebastopol with only two tables and a dream. Fast forward to today where the two friends and co-owners have a downtown restaurant that seats 40 people, has a full lunch menu, and they ship their sweet treats all over the world.

"Between customer service and advertising and keeping everything up to date, that kind of thing and internet orders. It's unreal, especially around the holidays," said Tarah Boykin, a co-owner of Spoonfudge

"And no sundae is complete without a little whipped cream," said one of the workers.

"Here at Spoonfudge it's crazy. We'll have people come in from all over the place. They've heard of the Spoonfudge shop," said Greg McGarrity, the mayor of Sebastopol. "They want to come in and see all the different countries they're shipping Spoonfudge to and try the different spoon fudge. It's a very unique place and the food they have to offer, the sweets and stuff, it's pretty awesome having it right here in Sebastopol."

And although you can find sandwiches, soups and salads on the Spoonfudge menu, it's ice cream, sundaes and floats that have made the small eatery famous.

"Our customers feel like they're a part of what we're doing and they're enjoying it and always cheering us on and it's amazing," said Alesia Johnson, the co-owner of Spoonfudge. "We've got a Facebook page with over 12-thousand fans from all over. Our customers are like our family. It's amazing how they've embraced spoon fudge into their lives and families as well."

Spoonfudge is open from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and on Saturday's from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
