MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Some Distinguished Young Women contestants showcased their talents to local seniors. The girls went to Brookdale Senior Living in Meridian Wednesday morning to introduce themselves to the residents, perform for them, and sing songs with them. It was a fun experience for the residents and the DYW girls.
“We come here to be a blessing to them and to spread joy to them,” says Larsen Sanford, the DYW of Covington County, 2019. “But I noticed today that it just spread joy to me, and it put a smile on my face just to help them.”
“It’s just nice to spread the excitement that we’ve been feeling this whole week with other people,” says Myla Cox, the DYW of Petal, 2019. “[It] doesn’t matter what age or who they are, it’s just a nice moment and it was great for all of us. It was just a great opportunity to be here.”
The DYW of Mississippi competition kicks off Thursday night at 7:30 at the Evangel Temple.
