MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Corey Hudson kicked things off on day one of the Jimmie Rodgers Music Festival.
The producer of the Jimmie Rodgers Festival says this is a good show and is great for everyone.
"We purposefully did a show on Friday night this year to keep a good value and the ticket price down so any and every one would be encouraged to come," Arden Barnett says.
Right after Hudson, it was Vasti Jackson hitting the stage.
Jackson was nominated for a Grammy this year, the album? The Soul of Jimmie Rodgers. He says it's great to be in Meridian for a historic event.
"Jimmie Rodgers, the father of country music and Meridian along with Vasti Jackson? It's a great combination," Jackson says.
Jimmie Rodgers’ great grandson says it's always great to honor the father of county music.
"Going around the country and around the world, it's a hit or miss if someone will know the name. If you're here, then shame on you if you don't know who Jimmie Rodgers is," James Court says.
Day one ended with Cowboy Mouth rocking the crowd. The lead singer is from the Queen City. During the show he told everyone that was sitting down to get up.
The crowd was strong and everyone is looking forward to what day two has to bring.
The gates open at 12:00 p.m. Saturday
