MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - WTOK and United Blood Services' MASH Bash Blood Drive continues till 7 p.m. Thursday at the Tommy Dulaney Center on Highway 19.
The drive kicked off Thursday morning with dozens coming through the door right away to give the gift of life. All of the blood collected at
Thursday's MASH Bash will be distributed to hospitals around our area. Last year’s MASH Bash yielded just over 300 units of blood. Organizers would like to see that number go higher.
"I heard they were expecting the weather to adversely affect the turnout, so I decided to come on up. I live in Quitman and drove up today to do this," donor Jim Robinson says.
Some donors were at MASH Bash due to personal reasons. Joyce Williamson says a family member needed blood and that is why she was donating hers at the drive.
"Recently, members of my family have had to have blood. Because of certain antibodies in their blood, it was hard to find. I just wanted to give back to the community," donor Joyce Williamson says.
The results of the 2017 MASH Bash will be available in the next several days.
