Dry weather is leading to an increase in brush fires

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Our area has been under a burn ban for about a week now, but that's not stopping fires from causing big problems.

Monday afternoon in Marion a small fire grew into a two acre blaze with the help of winds and dry foliage. The fire began around 1:00 p.m. and is only one of many that have been popping up around the area.

"This started out as a small pile and after 1000 gallons of water, it has spread to two and a half acres and threatened between 400 and 500 people," Lauderdale County Fire Coordinator Allan Dover says.

There is a burn ban and officials warn you not to burn whatsoever.
