MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - In the latest First Responders series, we talk to a Meridian Police Officer who enjoys the fast-paced life of being a part of law enforcement.

Meridian Police Department's Alex Lee grew up in Quitman and graduated from MCC through the criminal justice program. Lee says his father works in law enforcement and that's how he got hooked.

"I rode with him a few times, and that's where it really sparked my interested toward law enforcement," Lee says.

Lee says he loves the community and enjoys getting out and talking to people. He says some people might view police officers in a negative way, but he wants them to know he's there to help them.

"A lot of people look at us and don't want to deal with us. To me, that's not what it's about. I love getting out and making a difference in somebody’s life. I really do like to make a difference in somebody's life," Lee says.

In addition to being a patrol officer, Lee is on the Meridian S.W.A.T. Team. He says he loves the high energy aspect of the job and is proactive in his duties as a law enforcement officer. Lee says one of his favorite parts of the job is the connection he has with his fellow officers.

"They got my back, I got their back. That's the best feeling in the world. Knowing you can come to a job where you got somebody beside you that will lay down their life for you. That's an amazing feeling. I really do love it," Lee says.

Lee has been with the Meridian Police Department for two years. Looking forward, he says he will remain in law enforcement.

"I wouldn't mind going to trooper school sometime down the road. Right now, I love it at Meridian. I'm very pleased. I love the time working with the Meridian Police Department," Lee says.

Be sure to tune in every Sunday night and Monday mornings for the latest in the series.
