“The opportunity to give back to the community. Knowing that I’m part of an organization that cares about the community,” Hudson says.

Cozy Hudson says his career in firefighting began when his neighbor’s home caught on fire. He says he ran to put it out and that’s when he was asked to join the department.

“I sat there for a little while debating. I have family members who are firefighters, so I eventually decided to join,” Hudson says.

Hudson works as a mechanic at a local truck stop. He says balancing his work and volunteering can be difficult at times, but his heart is in it. He says it’s in his nature to stop and help others.

“Somebody might have an emergency situation on the side of the interstate. Some people will not stop, but as a firefighter it’s my common nature to say, ‘hey, ya’ll need some help?” Hudson explains.

Hudson says he is in a relationship and has the support of his family when it comes to helping others.

“My mom, she loves it. I have two cousins who are firefighters in Neshoba County. It’s kind of like a family tradition,” Hudson says.

Hudson says he continues to train and wants to learn EMR and EMS. He says he will continue to volunteer and help others for as long as he can.

“I’m just getting more and more involved in it because it’s knowledge that’s good to have,” Hudson says.
