MERIDIAN, MS. (WTOK) Roughly 300 Runners lined up this Saturday evening for a 5K run and 2 mile walk at Bonita Lakes.
"Glow So We Can Go" gathered runners and walkers dressed in glow-in-the dark attire, glow sticks and other glowing items. The run benefits the Dominican Republic medical mission team. About 30 people will set up health clinics with the money raised. The theme of this run is a unique way to raise money.
"It's a little bit different than your average 5K. And so the idea of it is they'll run through black lights, get sprayed with glow-in-the dark water, and make it a really fun event," Northcrest Baptist Church Associate Pastor Wade Phillips says.
"Just so we can give them some funds to go out and spread Jesus' name throughout the country of the Dominican Republic," runner Tyler Smith says.
The medical mission trip is planned for October.
