MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - The annual Governor’s Job Fair will take place in Meridian next week. To prepare people for the fair, several local agencies will be coming together to host a pre fair workshop.
“Area human resource people will be there who actually do the interviewing for companies day in and day out and they can tell you things that they look for in a resume,” explained Shannon Coleman, Job Placement Specialist with Meridian Community College.
With nearly 50 job vendors expected to set up shop at the Governor’s Job fair, local education officials are wanting to make sure everyone is ready to tackle the application process.
“Go over some of the common questions that are asked in an interview to help you prepare for your answers ahead of time so you don’t have to sit and think about how you are going to reply,” explained Coleman.
From learning about basic tips about posture, to the latest trends in resumes, to even how to dress for success, those who help people find jobs explain that first impressions are everything.
“Maybe you have been in a job for a long time and haven’t interviewed in quite some time and just the reminder to look people in the eye, have that good firm handshake and sit up straight, just have that good posture,” said Coleman.
By learning various tips and tricks when it comes to resumes to polishing up on the dos and don’ts of interviewing, local leaders want everyone to be prepared to land their perfect job.
“We always have someone who is offered a job on the spot and so we want to make sure that our community is ready to be able to land that job,” said Coleman.
The Governor’s Job Fair – Pre Fair Workshop will be at the MSU-Meridian Kahlmus Auditorium on Thursday, February 2 with one session at 3:30 to 5 p.m. and another session from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
The Governor’s Job Fair will be hosted at the Meridian Community College Tommy Dulaney Building on Thursday, February 9 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
