DECATUR, Miss. (WTOK) - A former professional baseball player from Newton County was recognized by some of his friends Friday evening.
The University of Mississippi graduate went on to play professionally in the MLB for the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he was part of a world series winning team. Gibbon was recognized for his career by his friends Friday evening at Turkey Creek Water Park in Decatur. He says it's just nice to reminisce with his old friends.
"When you get old you like to talk about old things that happened years ago. I really enjoy that you know. My health is not as good as it used to be. I wanted to bring that picture over there and tell everybody how I wish I could look like that and feel like that now," said Gibbon.
Gibbon was a pitcher over parts of 13 seasons with the Pirates, the San Francisco Giants, the Cincinnati Reds and the Houston Astros.
