SCOOBA, Miss. (WTOK) - Dr. Tom Huebner confirms submitted his resignation to the East Mississippi Community College board Monday, effective June 30.

Huebner talked by phone late Wednesday afternoon to Newscenter 11.

"After much consideration, I felt it was in the best interest of EMCC for me to resign effective June 30," Huebner said. "This provides ample time for EMCC to begin the search for a new president and for me to focus my efforts in Meridian. I believe this decision will serve both institutions as they seek new leadership."

Huebner is a candidate for the presidency of Meridian Community College.

The Meridian Community College Board of Trustees announced Apr. 24 that Huebner was selected to be the fifth finalist for the position.

Current MCC president, Dr. Scott Elliott, is retiring after 20 years at the college.
