Hundreds of students honored at Mississippi Scholars Ceremony

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Hundreds of graduating seniors were celebrated for their academic achievements in completing the Mississippi Scholars Program.

198 students from Meridian Public Schools and Lauderdale County Schools completed the program. They finished a rigorous and relevant course of study along with near perfect attendance and at least 40 hours of community service. Some of the outstanding students we spoke to say it’s an honor to receive such high praise.

“It’s really awesome. It’s great to be recognized for all of our hard work through all of our years through high school and just being able to be recognized and rewarded for it,” said Clarkdale High School senior Katie Bowman.

“It is a very honoring experience. Especially throughout this whole year. I’ve been here twice already this year and this honor is just another blessing on top of another one and I just hope this success continues throughout my college years,” said Southeast Lauderdale High School senior Qualynn Desmond.

Students tonight were honored with scholarships and medallions for their hard work.
