LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Miss. (WTOK) - The Lauderdale County School District Wednesday recognized the district's administrator and teachers of the year.
Leigh-Ann Smith, an English teacher from Clarkdale, was named the High School Teacher of Year. Kim Barnes, a math teacher at Southeast Middle School, was named Middle School Teacher of the Year.
"It makes me proud,” says Barnes. “I can't image doing anything else other than teaching. It makes me feel like I am where I need to be. "
"I’m really honored,” says Smith. “I really do work with a lot of fine educators who work hard, so to have this honor is just very overwhelming."
Southeast Middle School principal, Marcus Irby, was named Administrator of the Year. Irby says he had no idea he was going to get this award and is humbled to have been selected.
"It’s a tremendous honor," said Irby. "Lauderdale County has a rich history of academic excellence and to be selected as administrator of the year is very humbling and very much an honor.”
Irby said he is very thankful and could not have asked for a better place to work.
