MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - It is one of the most selfless acts one can do and that is when you give blood. In fact, one blood donation can save up to 3 people’s lives. For the second year, United Blood Services has added a large incentive to help keep blood shortages down.

“So donating blood is one of the most selfless acts one can do, your actually giving a piece of yourself to someone whom you will probably never meet, but you can rest assure that you have made a huge impact on someone’s live to fight a challenge they are facing ”, said Mitzi Breaux, marketing and communications manager.

The agency came up with a creative and fun way to grab attention in the need for blood donations. People that donated were registered for a dream vacation. The vacation winner this year turned out to be here in Meridian. Kristel Adams won the prize, and she chose St. Lucia from all the different spots in the world

“I didn't think it was real I even googled her phone number to see if she was really with United Blood services and when she told me I had won I was like yeah, the chances of winning are very slim and she called back again while I was a school in recess and knew it was real this time”, said Kristel Adams, Meridian prize winner.

United Blood Services says this is the second year they have offered the drawing for a dream vacation, but the first time to have a winner here in Meridian.
