Local bridge club spends New Year's Eve at homeless shelter

MERIDIAN, Miss--(WTOK) One local bridge club went against their holiday tradition and decided instead of gifting one another. They wanted to give back to the community.

Members of the Aurora Bridge Club served lunch for residents at the Francis W Davidson Memorial Homeless Shelter in Meridian. The group handed out dinner plates from Captain D's. Member of the organization ate with the residents and shared new years resolutions. President, Synthia Tureaud told news center 11 why they chose to give back.

"We usually do our own passing out of presents. This year we deiced we wanted to do something for the community. We are here at the Safe Harbor and we have had a good time with them doing New Year's resolutions having a goodtime having a good time and fellowshipping," said Tureaud.

The organization also handed out goodie-bags for the residents. They were filled with items like shampoo, deodorant, a toothbrush, toothpaste, a comb, a bar of soap.
