MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - One local clinic hosted a health fair and 5k race Saturday morning.
Greater Meridian Health Clinic partnered with the city of Meridian to sponsor a fight against obesity. This is part of a statewide effort to drastically reduce the obesity rate in the state by the year 2065. City officials sought this as a perfect opportunity to help promote the importance of health awareness to residents around the area.
"We thought this was a perfect fit to encourage people to live healthy lifestyles. We recently were chosen as one of the healthy hometowns by blue cross blue shield. We just want to encourage everybody to get out and be healthy, eat right and that makes us a better city and community," Laura Carmichael from the City of Meridian said.
The goal is to move 65,000 Mississippians out of obesity as a part of the effort.
