Local university to host rodeo event

LIVINGSTON, Ala. (WTOK) - It was an action packed Thursday night in Livingston as cowboys and cowgirls faced off in competition at the UWA rodeo showdown.

The event was hosted by the West Alabama Wranglers at Don C. Hines Rodeo Complex in Livingston. Some competitors explain their love for the sport.

"For the university, we started this year. Our university's rodeo team died out over the past couple of years and we had some people pick it back up the interests and we've been working really hard to get state back in rodeo. Started our team back and so we're just tiring to make a name for ourselves again," explains Mississippi competitor, Laurin Smith.

Thursday night was the men's competition, while Friday was the women's, and the finals take place Saturday night.
