MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Meridian Little Theatre unveiled its new season Monday, which includes kid-friendly shows and some favorite hit classics.

The Meridian Little Theatre has had a busy season, bringing well-known productions to the stage.

“I think people will really enjoy it, the whole season has been great and next year offers the same promise,” explained Ronnie Miller, Meridian Little Theatre Executive Director.

The upcoming season will continue the tradition of bringing quality, community plays to Meridian.

“I just think it is a wonderful season starting off with a family show like Shrek and ending with a Mel Brooks musical comedy which couldn’t be funnier,” said Miller.

The new season will kick off with Shrek the musical in October, followed by the classic, A Christmas Story in December.

“Everyone always enjoys around Christmas time the story of the Red Rider Beebe gun and again to do that on stage is going to be just hilarious,” said Scott Stevens, President of the Meridian Little Theatre Board.

The start to 2018 will bring a Neil Simon production called Barefoot in the Park that will take the stage in February.

“A classic that everyone is familiar with that the Meridian Little Theatre hasn’t done for over 30 years,” explained Stevens.

The season ends in May with the new Mel Brooks Musical called young Frankenstein. With all the shows featuring local talent.

“To be able to come and see some of those folks and see them grow on stage and preform for the community is incredible,” said Stevens.

The local community theatre wants to continue the momentum into the new season, by bringing the community together to laugh, cry, and enjoy live entertainment.

“Here you get a response from the audience and so the audience becomes a part of the process of theatre, that is why life theatre is so important for the community to give them a taste of the arts that is direct and very important in bringing a community together many times,” said Miller.
