MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Safety checkpoints are being setup throughout this weekend in the city of Meridian.

The Meridian Police Department is conducting the Super Bowl weekend roadblocks through a grant and is a partnership with the Mississippi Office of Highway Safety. Lt. Rita Jack says they started this evening and will continue through Sunday night. She says it's good to plan ahead.

"Go ahead and plan your destination. How you would get there and how you would get back home. Do so while you're sober. Have a plan," Lt. Rita Jack.

Jack says to not turn around if you see a checkpoint because you can be charged. Also, the DUI laws have changed. Now, if you have had four or more DUIs in your lifetime, then it is an automatic felony.
