DEMOPOLIS, Ala. (WTOK) - A West Alabama man is facing charges after he allegedly jumped from a moving car while trying to flee from police. Donny Rowell from Thomasville is accused in the case. The 26-year-old is charged with attempting to elude a Demopolis police officer and with possession of marijuana in the first degree. The charges stem from an incident that happened on Sunday, November 12th when investigators say Rowell sped away from an officer who was trying to stop him for a traffic violation. This led to a chase that topped speeds of more than 110 miles per hour.
According to authorities, Rowell and another person jumped from the moving vehicle before it crashed into a ditch in neighboring Hale County. This happened on Hale County Road 12. Police then chased Rowell and the other person who was in the car. During the chase officers located drugs in the area where they say Rowell had thrown them. Officers also located a backpack that contained three 3 handguns, several magazines clips, ammunition and scales. During a search of the wooded area police were not able to locate the second suspect.
As for Rowell, at last check bond for him had not yet been set.
