Meridian family narrowly escapes house fire

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - A Meridian family is still recovering after a fire devastated their home earlier this week.

Brenda Burton was at home asleep with her husband and three young children on 39th Court when she woke to the sounds of her daughter screaming. When she got up, she realized their home was on fire, and her daughter was trying to break a window to escape. The family was able to all escape through a bedroom window.

"I'm still kind of having flashbacks, but I'm so thankful that the good Lord just woke her up to wake us up and that we were all able to get out," she says. "Because we barely got out, and I'm just thankful."

Burton says right now, it appears the fire started from a bad electrical socket.

Some of the children are now left with nothing. Red Cross is assisting the family, but they could use your help this holiday season.

Burton has a 10-year-old daughter (size 10/12), a 6-year-old son (size 4T) and a 9-year-old daughter (size Large). If you have any donations, you can contact Burton at 601-621-6015.
