MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Many churches in our area had special Christmas Eve services Sunday, including one as soon as Christmas Day began.
St. Patrick Catholic Church in Meridian held its annual Midnight Mass first thing Christmas morning. The first words of the mass were "Oh come let us adore Him." Deacon Aaron Williams says the mass brings everyone together as a family, and it is a way to thank Jesus for coming to save us all.
"It's one of the more ancient traditions of the Catholic church," explains Williams. "We celebrate Christmas at the earliest possible moments. Christmas Day begins at midnight, so we are here at midnight to celebrate the birth of the Lord."
Deacon Williams says if anyone is interested in attending a mass, they are held daily at St. Patrick and St. Joseph.
